Toyota has unveiled the pricing and specifications for the 2026 Aygo X Hybrid, with orders opening on December 1st. The new model represents a significant upgrade over its predecessor, combining hybrid efficiency with enhanced features and a higher price point.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The Aygo X Hybrid will be available in four trims:
- Icon: Starting at £21,595
- Design: Priced at £23,695
- Excel: Available from £26,045
- GR Sport: The top-tier model, costing from £26,895
These prices position the Aygo X Hybrid as a more premium offering compared to rivals like the Fiat 500 Hybrid, which is expected to start around £19,000. Current Aygo X models are available with discounts of up to £4,000 through Toyota’s Buy A Car service.
What’s New in the Hybrid Model?
The Aygo X Hybrid is Toyota’s smallest hybrid vehicle to date, replacing the previous non-hybrid version. It comes standard with upgrades including:
- Diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels
- A seven-inch driver display
- Automatic air conditioning
- New recycled seat upholstery
- Two USB-C ports
- A larger nine-inch touchscreen (compared to the seven-inch screen in base models of the outgoing Aygo X)
Optional upgrade packages include:
- Convenience Pack (£500): Adds push-button start, front fog lights, wireless smartphone charger, and heated door mirrors.
- Parking Pack (£600): Keyless entry and front/rear parking sensors.
- Premium Pack (£1,350): Retractable canvas roof and JBL premium audio system.
The Design trim further enhances the package with black 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, noise reduction measures, and unique embroidered upholstery. The Excel trim offers a 10.5-inch touchscreen and heated front seats, while the GR Sport model includes tuned suspension, bespoke wheels, a black bonnet, and GR-branded seats.
Safety and Performance Improvements
The new Aygo X Hybrid is expected to improve upon the four-star Euro NCAP safety rating of the previous model. Toyota has added adaptive cruise control, emergency stop systems, driving assist features, pre-collision assist, and lane keep assist.
Performance sees a significant boost with the hybrid powertrain. The new model combines a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering 115bhp. This results in a 0-62mph time of 9.2 seconds—a 5.7-second improvement over the previous generation. Toyota claims a combined fuel economy of 78.8mpg, a substantial increase from the old model’s 56.4mpg. Independent testing by Auto Express even recorded 86mpg during their drive.
The Aygo X Hybrid’s shift to a hybrid powertrain and upgraded features underscores Toyota’s commitment to both efficiency and driver experience. The higher price reflects these advancements, positioning the vehicle as a competitive option in the small car segment.
