Isuzu’s Extreme D-Max Concept Now For Sale: A Show Truck for the Serious Off-Roader

Isuzu’s outrageous D-Max Concept X, first unveiled in 2018, has reappeared on the market, offering a unique opportunity to own a truly over-the-top vehicle. Originally conceived as a joke after stumbling upon oversized tires at a 4WD show, this one-of-a-kind build represents the extreme end of pickup truck modification.

The Genesis of an Outlaw Truck

The Concept X started as an internal project for Isuzu’s Team D-Max (EMG), quickly escalating into two extreme builds – one D-Max pickup, and one MU-X SUV. Only the pickup has resurfaced, leaving the SUV’s fate unknown.

Visual and Mechanical Excess

Based on the previous-generation D-Max, the Concept X abandons subtlety in favor of sheer presence. The truck boasts massive 38-inch mud-terrain tires, aggressively flared fenders, a custom bumper, and a vented hood with red-tinted headlights. The bed has been modified to carry two spare wheels, ensuring it’s prepared for any terrain.

The suspension is where things get truly wild. A 7-inch lift kit, combined with remote reservoir shocks and a five-link coil setup (replacing the standard leaf springs), gives the truck a staggering 50-degree approach angle. This allows it to conquer almost any obstacle.

Under the Hood: Practical Power

Despite the extreme modifications, the Concept X retains its factory 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. While it produces a modest 174 hp (130 kW or 177 PS) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque, sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox, it prioritizes capability over raw power. The truck is designed for tackling rugged terrain, not drag racing.

Low Mileage, High Price

The vehicle is currently located in Welshpool, Perth, Western Australia, with a mere 385 km (239 miles) on the odometer. This suggests it has spent most of its life in storage. The asking price is AU$ 65,000 (US$ 42,300), which is less than the top-spec Isuzu D-Max Blade (AU$ 78,990 or US$ 56,200).

The Concept X is not just a modified truck; it’s a statement. It represents the ultimate in over-the-top customization, blending extreme capability with a bold, unapologetic aesthetic.

This rare opportunity allows a buyer to own a piece of Isuzu’s automotive excess, perfect for those who demand attention both on and off the trail.
