BMW’s 2027 Lineup Leaked: M2 xDrive Confirmed, Electrification Push Intensifies

BMW USA accidentally published its full 2027 model year lineup on its online shop, revealing a significant expansion of its “Neue Klasse” strategy. The leak confirms long-rumored models, including the highly anticipated M2 xDrive, and underscores the company’s aggressive push towards electrification.

All-Wheel Drive for the Smallest M Car

The most notable revelation is the confirmation of the M2 xDrive. BMW will equip its smallest M model with all-wheel drive for the 2027 model year, filling a gap in its current lineup where the M2 is the only full-performance car lacking xDrive. The standard rear-wheel-drive M2 will remain available with a manual transmission for enthusiasts. Pricing for the xDrive version is expected to start around $75,000, mirroring the $5,100 premium seen between the M4 Competition and its AWD sibling.

Electrification Takes Center Stage

Beyond the M2, the leak highlights BMW’s commitment to electric vehicles. The iX4, a coupe-styled EV crossover, is confirmed alongside expanded versions of the iX3. The iX3 will be available in three trims: 40 sDrive (RWD), 40 xDrive, and 50 xDrive. The iX5 will also gain an electric variant, the iX5 60 xDrive, complementing the existing X5 lineup.

New and Updated Models Across the Range

The leaked data shows BMW plans to refresh or replace models throughout its range:

  • 3 Series: An M350 xDrive is listed, replacing the M340i. Two fully electric i3 models (40 xDrive and 50 xDrive) will also join the lineup.
  • 7 Series: While the facelifted model is blurred on the site, the V8 engine will remain for a new M Performance variant, though a V12 return is unlikely.
  • X5: The next-generation luxury SUV will retain a rear-wheel-drive base version (40 sDrive) alongside the electric iX5 60 xDrive.

Future Plans: Electric M Models and Off-Road Challenger

BMW’s expansion doesn’t stop in 2027. The company is expected to introduce electric M models (M3 and X3 M) by the end of that year. Further down the line, a rugged off-road vehicle is rumored to rival the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class, potentially offering both V8 and electric powertrains. The next-generation X7 will also debut in 2028 with an electric variant.

This unintentional leak provides a clear roadmap of BMW’s aggressive product strategy. The company is doubling down on both performance and electrification, ensuring a broad and competitive lineup for the coming years.

The accidental publication of these plans demonstrates BMW’s ambitious agenda for the next several years. The company is clearly aiming to fill every segment with multiple powertrain options, catering to a wide range of customer preferences as the automotive industry transitions towards an electric future.
