A Mercedes-Benz owner in Webster, Massachusetts, narrowly escaped life-threatening injuries after being pinned under his vehicle on February 17. The incident unfolded at an Advanced Auto Parts store when a car jack failed, causing the SUV to collapse onto the man while he was inspecting a potential mechanical issue.
Rapid Response Saves Man’s Life
Police were dispatched to the scene after reports of a trapped individual. Bodycam footage released by the Webster Police Department shows Officer Nicholas Caruso arriving to find the man already unresponsive beneath the Mercedes-Benz GL. What is striking is that, despite the emergency, no one had yet utilized a jack from the auto parts store itself to lift the vehicle.
Caruso immediately directed bystanders to secure the vehicle with wheel chocks and retrieve a jack. Within just over two minutes, he successfully extracted the man from under the SUV. Emergency medical services confirmed the man regained consciousness as soon as he was freed.
Collaboration Between First Responders Highlighted
The incident underscores the importance of quick action and inter-agency cooperation. The Webster Police Department praised the coordinated response of its officers, firefighters, and EMS crews in a Facebook post, stating that the rescue exemplifies the dedication of public safety personnel serving the community.
“This was a great response by all of Webster’s public safety team. This is yet another example of the collaboration displayed by the members who serve our community every day.”
The man’s survival is a testament to the professionalism and swift intervention of first responders, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome. This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with working under vehicles and the critical need for proper safety measures.
