MG 4 Urban: New Affordable Electric Hatchback Arrives in the UK

MG has expanded its electric vehicle lineup in the UK with the introduction of the MG 4 Urban, a new, more accessible variant of the popular MG 4 EV. Priced starting at £23,495, the Urban offers a compelling entry point into the EV market.

Key Differences from the Standard MG 4

While sharing the same name, the Urban distinguishes itself from the existing MG 4 in several key ways. Most notably, it features front-wheel drive instead of the rear-wheel drive configuration of the standard model. The exterior styling also takes cues from MG’s Cyberster roadster, giving it a unique aesthetic.

Interior and Tech Specs

Inside, the Urban boasts a modern cabin equipped with a large 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7.0-inch digital instrument display provides additional driver information. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, blindspot detection, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability—allowing the car to power external devices using its traction battery.

Trim Levels and Performance

The MG 4 Urban will be available in three trims: Comfort Standard Range, Comfort Long Range, and Premium Long Range.

• Comfort Standard Range: Equipped with a 43kWh battery, this model delivers a range of 201 miles and supports up to 150kW fast charging. A single 147bhp motor provides acceleration from 0 to 62mph in 9.6 seconds, with a top speed of 99mph.
• Comfort Long Range: Priced at £25,495, this trim upgrades to a 53.9kWh battery, increasing the range to 258 miles. The motor output increases to 158bhp, reducing the 0-62mph time to 9.5 seconds.
• Premium Long Range: The top-tier model at £27,995 includes upgraded features like a six-speaker sound system and heated, electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

Updates to Existing MG 4

Alongside the Urban, MG will also release a refreshed version of the original MG 4, featuring a revamped interior that MG claims represents a “major technology and quality upgrade.” This model will start at £29,995.
