The electric vehicle (EV) market is flooded with new models, yet one often overlooked option stands out for value: the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Launched in 2021, this EV hasn’t captured the same hype as some newer competitors, making it a surprisingly affordable used purchase.
Why the Mach-E is Underrated
When the Mach-E first arrived, reviews were positive, but sales lagged behind expectations. Today, you’re more likely to find traditional V8 Mustangs for sale than their electric counterparts. Despite this, the Mach-E remains on the market, though it now shares territory with Ford’s newer crossover models.
The key advantage? Depreciation. A new Extended Range (ER) model originally cost around £51,000. Now, those same vehicles can be found for under £17,000, offering significant savings.
Performance and Range
The Mach-E ER boasts an impressive claimed range of 379 miles, which explains its popularity in the used market. In real-world testing, even at highway speeds, you can expect around 300 miles from its 91kWh battery. Charging speeds peak at 150kW, making it practical for long journeys.
A Standard Range (SR) version exists, with a claimed range of 273 miles (increasing to 292 miles in 2022 models), but the price difference isn’t substantial enough to make it the obvious choice.
Drivetrain Choices
Both variants are available with all-wheel drive, but opting for the rear-wheel-drive single-motor configuration is preferable. It maintains a smoother ride and avoids the 50-mile range reduction associated with AWD.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E represents a practical EV option for those seeking performance, range, and value on the used market. Its minimal design changes since launch mean older models don’t feel outdated, making it a smart alternative to pricier new EVs.
