Jeep is marking its 85th anniversary with special editions of the Gladiator, Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and Compass. The automaker is introducing a range of cosmetic updates across these models, though one notable feature from previous anniversary editions has been excluded: plaid upholstery.
Anniversary Trim Details
The new 85th Anniversary editions, based on the Sport S trim for the Gladiator and Wrangler, feature bronze tow hooks and 17-inch Steel Oxide wheels. Body-color fender flares, unique badging, and decals distinguish the models. The Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and Compass receive similar treatment, including Agave Blue graphics and Mayan Gold contrast stitching inside.
Engine Options and Performance
While Jeep has not released comprehensive specifications, the Cherokee edition is expected to utilize a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid engine producing 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. The high-end Grand Wagoneer should feature a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque.
A Missed Opportunity?
Notably absent from these new editions is the plaid seat fabric that became a signature element of previous Jeep anniversary models. This omission has puzzled some enthusiasts, as the iconic pattern has been a popular feature in the past. CEO Bob Broderdorf emphasized Jeep’s commitment to customer feedback over its 85-year history, referencing the original 1941 Willys as a benchmark for all subsequent Jeep designs.
Despite the absence of plaid, these anniversary editions remain a celebration of Jeep’s heritage and a nod to its loyal fanbase. The new designs are a reminder of the brand’s enduring legacy in the automotive industry.
