Leapmotor Accelerates European Expansion with New Models and Stellantis Partnership

Leapmotor, the Chinese automaker backed by Stellantis, is poised for rapid growth in Europe with a wave of new vehicle launches over the next two years. The company plans to double its European sales to over 100,000 units by 2026, introducing three new models – including hybrid and fully electric options – to compete directly with mainstream European brands like Volkswagen.

Hybrid Range-Extenders Lead the Charge

Leapmotor’s first major push will be the B10 SUV, a plug-in hybrid with range-extender technology. This model combines an 18.8kWh battery for 50 miles of electric range with a 1.5-liter petrol engine that extends the total range to 559 miles. The B10 will be the first of many Chinese range-extenders entering the European market, offering a transitional solution for consumers hesitant to fully commit to EVs. Leapmotor plans to produce the B10 in Spain, leveraging Stellantis’ existing manufacturing facilities.

The company’s larger C10 SUV also features this range-extender technology, boasting an even longer WLTP range of 602 miles. These vehicles represent a strategic move to address range anxiety and offer a familiar powertrain option to European buyers.

New Models Target Key Segments

Beyond hybrids, Leapmotor will expand its fully electric lineup with two new models: the B05 hatchback and the B03X crossover. The B05, launching in 2026, is designed to compete with the Volkswagen Golf, offering a larger interior and a range of around 260 miles. The B03X, a smaller crossover, will arrive in early 2027, targeting the VW ID. Polo segment.

These launches cover essential market segments, positioning Leapmotor for significant growth in Europe.

Leveraging the Stellantis Partnership

Leapmotor’s aggressive expansion is underpinned by its strategic partnership with Stellantis, which holds a 51% stake in the company. This collaboration provides Leapmotor with access to established European infrastructure, including manufacturing plants, logistics networks, and IT systems.

“We are a start-up with two good parents,” says Leapmotor International CEO Tianshu Xin. “The Chinese parent provides innovative technologies and products at competitive cost, and Stellantis gives me a strong European network.”

The partnership also opens potential for further integration, including the use of Stellantis platforms and powertrains. Leapmotor is considering adopting Stellantis’ 1.2-liter turbo engine to broaden its powertrain options and compete in the non-EV market.

Rapid Retail Expansion

Leapmotor has already established a strong retail presence in Europe, exceeding 800 outlets and service points in just over a year. The UK alone has 73 locations, with plans to reach 100 by the end of 2026. This rapid expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to building a robust after-sales network.

Leapmotor’s ambitious growth strategy, combined with its strategic partnership with Stellantis, positions it as a major contender in the competitive European automotive market. The company’s ability to offer innovative products at competitive prices, backed by a reliable infrastructure, will be crucial to its success.
