It’s the year of the big anniversary.
The USA is turning 250.
We’ll see fireworks. Eat way too much hot dog. But the auto industry isn’t staying quiet, not when there’s branding to be done. Now Jeep is in on the fun, with something called the Wrangler America250.
It Is Mostly Cosplay
Don’t expect engineering marvels here. This is largely a paint job, wrapped in flags and sold as character.
Jeep calls the exterior treatment “armor.” It’s red, white, and blue, obviously. The wheels have this steel oxide look, but they tint blue to match the rest of the act. There are red accents, just enough to tie the whole chaotic aesthetic together. Inside? The Jean Blue leather from the seats stretches out to the dash. The headrests show the logo, the seat backs have a Velcro spot for a patch you’ll probably buy separately.
It is not just paint, it is an identity statement, even if that statement is slightly loud.
They included a few novelties, too. A special leather key fob tag sits in the cupholder. In the back? A Captain America shield tire cover. Yes, really. Jeep partnered with Marvel to drop a limited edition comic book in every trunk, tying the car to the Avenger’s iconography. It’s aggressive marketing. Does it work?
The Bones Remain Standard
Stripped of the flair, the A250 rides on the Willys trim. That’s the baseline model. It still gets the useful stuff. 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, for example. Steel rock rails, red tow hooks at both ends, LED lights in the front. The fender flares match the body color now, which actually cleans up the look quite a bit compared to the black plastic on some lower trims.
Functionally, it is still a Wrangler. It still crawls. It just looks like it went to a very specific Fourth of July parade.
The Cost of Patriotism
It hits dealerships later this summer. No specific day has been dropped, which leaves us guessing, but the price is set.
There is a $2095 surcharge over the base model. That money buys the colors. It buys the Marvel comic. It buys the tire cover that will likely lose its grip after the first off-road spin. You pay extra to wear your nation’s colors in steel.
