BYD hiring 9,000+ workers: Salaries and roles in Shenzhen’s new EV push

BYD is moving fast.

The Chinese EV giant has kicked off a massive recruitment drive at its Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone industrial base. They are looking to fill over 9,000 positions. This isn’t a trickle. It is a flood of jobs across two main facilities: the Ebu components plant and the Xiaomo vehicle manufacturing unit.

Why the sudden burst of energy? Demand. Specifically, international demand.

From slump to surge: The sales turnaround

Until recently, the numbers looked shaky. BYD saw its sales drop for eight consecutive months year-on-year until April. That streak broke in May. By June, sales were up 5.2%. The trend only strengthened from there.

The data is stark. In 2025 alone, BYD exported 1.05 million passenger vehicles and pickup trucks globally. That is a 145% jump from the previous year. For the first half of 206, overseas sales hit roughly 789,400 unit, a 70% increase. The annual target? 1.5 million exported vehicles.

To hit that number, you need bodies. Specifically, skilled and unskilled labor in equal measure.

Where the jobs are

The Shenshan base is critical. It produces mid-to-high-end models like the Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7. It also handles export-focused staples like the Song Plus and Song Pro. The park produced over 300,030 vehicles last year. Once fully operational, it aims for an annual output value of 220 billion yuan.

But right now, they need people. Here is where you fit in:

BYD 11th Division (Xiaomo Park)

Seeking 4,800 people.
Roles include sheet metal workers, upholstery technicians, and general warehouse staff. If you work with your hands and don’t mind precision, this is likely the entry point.

BYD 15th Division (Xiaomo Park)

Seeking 1,200 people.
This division needs assembly operators, welding technicians, and foam techs. It is more specialized than the 11th. Higher skill ceiling. Higher pay potential.

BYD 15th Division at Ebu Park

Seeking 2,000 people.
Operators, machine adjusters, welders. This focuses on components rather than final assembly, but the skill sets overlap.

Pay scale: How much can you earn?

Money talks. In Shenshan, the numbers are concrete.

  • General operators start at 5,000 yuan (~700 USD) monthly.
  • Technical specialists like welders and electricians can pull up to 10,000 yuan (~1,500 USD).
  • Senior technicians or mold designers? They can command 15,000 to 4,000 yuan (~2,200–2,900 USD).

Is it low compared to Silicon Valley? Absolutely. Is it competitive for local manufacturing in Shenzhen’s greater region? It is decent work for a volume-driven industry that needs scale.

The global context

Shenshan is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. BYD is localizing production aggressively. You cannot export your way to dominance anymore. You have to build there.

Brazil: Their local plant just crossed the 100,000 vehicle milestone. The workforce there now exceeds 5,500 people.
Hungary: Construction has begun on BYD’s first European passenger vehicle factory in Szeged. This is a direct shot at the European market.
Thailand: The Rayong plant is already humming. It produces five specific models: the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seagull 5 DM-i (often called Seal 5 in some markets), Sealion 5 DM-i, and the Sealion 6 DM-i.

This isn’t just about filling seats in Guangdong. It is about feeding a global engine. The Shenshan recruitment drive is a symptom of a company betting that electric vehicles are not just a trend, but the new normal for mobility.

They have the cars. They have the orders. Now they need the hands to build them.
