Forget the SUVs. For now. The Giulia is your only real car choice from the Italians, unless you count the crossover segment. But that silence? It ends soon. A new C-segment hatch is coming. And yes. It looks a lot like a comeback story for the Giulietta.
Alfa Romeos claims this thing will channel the spirits of the 147 and its successor. They want “innovation” mixed with their usual DNA. Standard talk, sure. But the hardware is interesting.
This follows the big Stellantis investor event last week. They promised 110 cars by 2030 across their whole family. Two Alfas made the list: a C-SUV and this weird “Bottega Fuoriserie” thing. And the hatch.
It rides on the new STLA One platform. Big deal. That chassis supports everything from the Vauxhall Corsa up to the Peugeot 5008, which means Alfa gets choices. They’re keeping both options on the table: petrol. Or pure electric. No middle ground this time. Just gas or plug.
Why? Because the platform allows it.
There are some cool tech tricks under the hood, literally. Steer-by-wire. Batteries fused into the body structure for stiffness. A central computer system they call “STLA Brain” that handles everything from radio apps to powertrain maps.
We saw a glimpse on screen during the presentation. Looked like a family car. Didn’t stick around long enough to inspect closely. Alfa hasn’t confirmed if it’s the final design or just a mood board sketch.
Where it fits
It slots between the refreshed Tonale and the tiny Junior.
It has to fight the Volkswagen Golf, obviously. But also the EV crowd. The ID.3. The Volvo EX30. A lot of heat in this segment right now. Is the badge enough? Maybe. Alfa still owns the Giulietta trademark. They axed the last one in 2020, and fans have been loud since then.
“We will combine innovation with distinctive DNA.” — Alfa Romeo (probably)
We don’t know the name yet. Could be a fresh start. Could be the return of the name that means “little one” in Italian. We just have to wait and see.
