The Peugeot 2008 has a serious problem. At least one of its parts doesn’t have enough breathing room.
Australian importer Inchcape European Automotive just announced a recall for 197 of these small SUVs. The reason? A potential under-bonnet short-circuits. This isn’t just a glitch. It could cause a fire.
Why is there a fire risk?
It’s a manufacturing defect. A simple oversight during assembly.
Specifically, the clearance between two components is too small. You have the gasoline particulate filter pipe. Then you have the pole protection cup on the 48V belt starter-generator. They are too close. Too intimate, almost.
What happens when you add water to that mix? Rain.洗车. High humidity.
Under wet conditions, water gets in. Water conducts electricity. When it touches those exposed electrical parts, a hazard sparks. The system overheats. The engine compartment becomes a hazard zone.
“A vehicle fire increases the risk of serious injury and death to vehicle occupants,” Inchcape said in its official notice. They didn’t mince words. Property damage is part of the equation too. But human life is the headline.
Which vehicles are affected?
We are looking at 197 units. Not a fleet sale. Not a massive fleet order. Just nearly 200 cars.
These vehicles were produced between 2024 and early 2026 models. Yes, they are that new. You likely just bought yours. Or maybe you’re on the lot.
