Ford’s First Rally Star, Rebuilt for Speed

MST did it again.

The Welsh shop turned the classic Ford Escort Mk1 into something else entirely. The new Mk1 Evo.

They left the mixed-surface compromises behind. No more tall tires or tiny 13-inch wheels. That stuff belongs in a museum, or at least to a late sixties rally stage. This car is serious.

It screams asphalt.

At the heart sits a 2.5-liter Millington four-cylinder. It makes 350 horsepower. Bolted to that is a six-speed paddle-shift gearbox. Want more juice? You can order 2.7 or 2.8-liter variants instead.

“The suspension is new, fully independent at the rear.”

It borrows logic from the Colin McRae era. Think about the Mk2 setup he loved. They paired it with WRC-spec Reiger dampers that adjust on command. 18×8 alloy wheels wear Michelin rally tires. For street duty? Swap them for 17-inch Pilots. Brakes come from AP Racing. Stopping is as violent as the launch.

Who wants this?

Everyone. The order books are packed through 2027.

You pick the vibe. Full works rally aesthetic with all the graphics. Or keep it tidy, add some Alcantara and leather. A ‘touring’ spec, if you like the term. Paint choices? Basically whatever you can name.

And here is the kicker.

It’s not an original Escort.

Those originals are rusted wrecks waiting to happen. MST doesn’t patch them. They build the shell from scratch in-house. Legal brand-new registration. Zero fatigue.

£195,000 is the start price. Add VAT. That lands you around £234,000.

Steep? Sure.

Look around though. Other resto-mods cost far more. By that logic, the Mk1 Evo looks cheap.

Will you take it?

The shelves are full, anyway.
