Biodiesel
Biodiesel is eco-friendly. It comes from animal fats, algae, or recycled vegetable oil. Think used restaurant oil. This veggie-based fuel is carbon-neutral. You can usually run it in any diesel car with little to no engine modification.
It burns cleaner than fossil fuel diesel. You get fewer aromatic hydrocarbons. Less soot too. Less carbon monoxide. The carbon dioxide released by biodiesel is the same kind absorbed by the plant source. Hence, “carbon neutral.”

Electricity
Electricity isn’t new. Modern science is just finding better uses for it. Electric vehicles don’t produce tailpipe emissions. That’s the big win.
But the generators producing the electricity do emit pollutants. It’s not zero impact. However, these emissions are minimal compared to burning gas.

Hydrogen

Efficiency is high. It seems like only a matter of time before this fuel hits your driveway. The U.S. government is working on cost and production challenges. Progress is anticipated. But if you’re asking how hydrogen works right now, the answer is: mostly in transit fleets.
Compressed Natural Gas
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is clear. Odorless. Non-corrosive.
Vehicles running on it show an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80 percent compared to gasoline. That’s a huge drop. CNG is produced at a relatively low cost. It burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel.
If you’re comparing alternatives, CNG offers a middle ground. Cheaper than gas. Cleaner than diesel. But infrastructure is still catching up.
Other Fuels Coming
The horizon is wide. Fruit-derived fuel is in the mix. Biogasoline. Rice-based ethanol. These are just the start.
